Yoga came to my life inspired by a friend who is a certified yoga teacher. I met her in a birthday party, we connected immediately when I told her that I wanted to create a wellness space for the Latino community. At that time, I was a Certified Health Coach so I thought maybe I could do a meditation, and she could do the yoga session. I organized everything and set a date for this event in summer of 2023 at Arnold Arboretum park in Boston. Summer ended and we stopped the classes because we did not have a space to host indoor sessions. In my heart I knew I wanted to continue creating these events and become a yoga teacher so I started looking for trainings, but they were out of my budget. On my birthday, I went to the website of House of Om and there was a discount for new year and that was my opportunity. I started the training, and it was like a whole new world.
I started practicing yoga with my friends and passing what I was learning to them. I participated in a business pitch contest proposing to bring yoga to corporate and won two prizes. Regardless of this external momentum, I have created a beautiful Latino community in Boston. I learned that yoga in Boston is considered a luxury and not many Latino community can afford it. My vision is to bring yoga to the Latino community in an accessible way. I think that yoga is an internal journey where we can find the essence of our souls. We can work on our internal self while practicing. It is a fulfillment practice that brings joy, calmness, and ground us.
There is a huge need for mental health and spaces where community can gather and connect with themselves. Emotions are stored in our bodies, and the community needs to learn how to release and let go of this energy that makes them feel blocked. There is a need for inclusivity and diversity in certain sectors. It is not fair that the community must pay for insane amounts of money to have access to these spaces. While practicing when becoming a yoga teacher, I have seen tears from the community during yoga sessions. There is a power of healing that reminds me of the reason why I am here. This is a sense of purpose bigger than me that keeps myself moving forward. I learned that when I am aligned to my souls’ purpose, I can inspire people to be better and listen to their souls as well. This is just the beginning of a life full of joy, peace and adventure.
Namaste,
Majo
